Call for Contributions to the Journal of GIUI

The Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation (GIUI) was established in 2012 under the framework of the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (Guangzhou Award). GIUI now works globally in partnership with cities, urban professionals and institutions, and is functioning as an international network dedicated to furthering the exchange of knowledge, expertise and experience derived from urban innovation. 

The Journal of the GIUI provides a platform for city and community leaders, planners and managers, practicing professionals and researchers to disseminate knowledge and lessons learned from experience in the pursuit of the urban dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. We are in the process of publishing a new issue focusing on the following columns and warmly welcome your submissions. 


a) Articles focusing on how urban innovation has changed people's day-to-day lives and livelihoods.

b) Guangzhou Award recipient cities, initiatives and partners will be highlighted and priorities for this section.

c) About 1200 to 1500 words.


a)Investigative write-ups on sustainable waste collection, recycling, reuse and disposal at local, city or regional levels.

b)About 1500 words excluding date sheets and photos etc.


a) Articles on what works and doesn't work in a/your city and why. 

b) About 800 words


a) Study, research, analysis or comment on one of the Guangzhou Award initiatives.

b) This issue will put a special emphasis on the 3rd cycle of the Award.

c) About 1000 words excluding data sheets and photos etc.


a) Analysis or introduction of a city's innovation achievement that you feel the rest of world should know about and why. 

b) About 1500-2000 words.

More details:

a) Please send us your contributions in English with up to five (5) recent photos, graphics and/or illustrations (maps, plans, etc) in medium to high resolution.

b) Please also enclose a recent photo (working or leisure portrait, size over 1MB) and a short personal profile with about 100 words.

c) Only original work will be accepted. Excerpts from previously published material must be duly acknowledged.

d) The publication team reserves the right to Once submission is accepted, the publication team might contact you for further information and a small remuneration will be offered to selected submissions.
