The Secretariat of Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation is saddened to learn the unfortunate passing of Mr. Alioune Badiane, a great urbanist and practitioner in sustainable urban development. 

It was a great honour for us to have Mr. Badiane as a Jury member of the 3rd Guangzhou Award in 2016, when he contributed his wealth of knowledge about African cities and shared with other global Jury members his precious work experience in Africa.

The Award would like to extend the deepest sympathies to the families and colleagues of Mr. Alioune Badiane, a dear friend to be remembered forever.
