Guangzhou Award International Advisor Speaks at WSIS+20 High-Level Event

The WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025 took place from 7 to 11 July in Geneva, Switzerland. Co-hosted by ITU and the Swiss Confederation and co-organized with UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD, the event brought together global stakeholders to assess progress and shape the future of digital technology for sustainable development.
Nicholas You, Executive Director of the Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation and International Advisor of the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation, was invited to speak at the event. He participated in the panel discussion titled “Safe Smart Cities and Climate Frustration”, co-organized by ITU, Global Cities Hub, and WeGO, where he emphasized the role of smart cities in advancing inclusive and sustainable urban development.

Earlier the same day, Mr. You also spoke at a session organized by GSMA, highlighting innovative smart city approaches to transport, mobility, and energy, drawing on global best practices.

As a milestone event ahead of the UN General Assembly’s 20-year review on tech and society, WSIS+20 underscores the importance of digital cooperation in achieving sustainable development. The Guangzhou Award remains committed to advancing the global exchange of urban innovation practices and contributing to inclusive, people-centered digital societies.
