Guangzhou delegation rounds off study trips in Mexico, the United States and Japan

A delegation led by Mr. Wang Yongping, Deputy Director-General of Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation (GIUI) promoted exchanges in four global cities from June 18 to 27.

The delegation went to draw on experiences from the excellent initiatives of the third Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (Guangzhou Award) in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, Mexico and Boston, the United States.

A delegation led by Mr. Wang Yongping, Deputy Director-General of the Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation (GIUI) holds a discussion with local government of Tlajomulco de Zuniga, Mexico on June 19.

In Tlajomulco de Zuniga, a shortlisted city of the third Guangzhou Award, the delegation conducted a field study to its initiative "Environmental Law Prosecution Local Office", and held discussions with President Alberto Uribe Camacho of the Government of Tlajomulco de Zuñiga, Mr. Willehaldo Saavedra, Cabinet Coordinator of Local Government, Mr. Miguel Leon Corrales, Director General of Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and Mr. Gilberto Villalpando Pina, Local Environmental Prosecutor. They also paid a visit to the Cajititlan Lagoon project.

The delegation then visited Boston, which was one of five Winning Cities of the third Guangzhou Award, for studying the initiative "Youth Lead the Change: Youth Participatory Budgeting". They visited the Boston Center for Youth & Family and the City Hall of Boston, had an in-depth discussion with the staff members, and got an insight into the implementation of the initiative. 

Following that, Guangzhou delegation visited the projects of "Boston Latin Academy Gym Renovation", "Hubway Expansion" and "Franklin Park Playground Upgrade", which are three of the achievements of the participatory budgeting initiative.

In addition, the delegation carried out research and study on the role of the city of Guangzhou in the global context, visiting AT Kearney Inc in Washington, and Institute for Urban Strategies of the Mori Memorial Foundation in Tokyo, Japan.

The Guangzhou delegation carries out a study tour in Boston, the United States, on June 23.
